Super Mario Sunshine

Pros:  The new and inventive gameplay

Cons:  Lazy, Annoying, Camera

The Bottom Line:  If you liked Super Mario 64, then get up all over this, you will love it. But never the less, hate or like Mario, try it, it's a great game!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Gameplay: The idea of this whole game is very creative, having Mario use the equipment of a water pack, and adding some more old school puzzles without the water pack, slight diverting from the original game, which makes it even greater. All the abilities that he can use from Super Mario 64, plus new abilities with the water pack, all come together in this game. The game has a total of 7 worlds, each having it's own 8 "missions", the majority of them different from other levels, but some the same, each and every time (Chasing Shadow Mario for Ex.), not adding much more to the game. But the variety of each level and the usual different things to do, make it an all around fun setup. One of the main flaws that'll probably be noticed through the game is the camera. That can become one annoying son of a...well you understand. It's really kinda lazy, and doesn't stay behind Mario. More or less, sometimes there could be a wall it swung behind, leaving a shadow sillouette of Mario, trying to help, but when trying to get the camera back across, it's acctually like the wall is in your way of moving the camera, leaving you unable to see what is coming up. Besides that, nothing else is to much of a problem.

Controls: Thanks to the simple Gamecube layout of the controller, this makes the game's controls SIMPLE!!! If you have a problem with them, you'd have to have less than 4 fingers on each hand or something. The pressure you exort from the pack, depends on how hard you press down on the R shoulder button also allowing you to run around, then clicking it down all the way puts you in a standing point where you can free 360 control the pack. The only reason you have to move your thumb around the buttons is when you need to move the often flawful camera with the C analog. But you still cannot complain! Controls are 100%!

Graphics: Look at the water for a few seconds.....Don't you wish you were at a beach? The water graphics were the most amazing and noticable thing in the game. If you also notice in the beginning, the Cell Shading (I think thats the correct term) use on them while in the plane, but mainly noticable on Princess Peach for me. For an example, look at the new Zelda coming out for the Cube. But everything else is still great, maybe not having Mario as designed as he was in SSBM, it's still quite the site, everything is beautifully disigned.

Sound: If you can slighty notice, they get into sounds details. Listen to Mario walk without the pack, and with. They make sure that everything almost had a sound/voice. Te islanders just make little sound bits, but also go with the emotion at the moment, which was good. They also had added voices for Mario, Peach, F.L.U.D.D. Although the voices were good, as usual, Peach's got on my nerves like most of her voiced games. And the music....MAN what a good job they did! Especalliy the whole old school Mario bebop like remix. Great idea. The music fits every area you're in. I just wish they put a sound test in there, I would've been all over it. Music is amazing in this game.

Final Overview: Great and Crisp New Gameplay, Showing-Off Graphics, Controls that are easy enough to make you more lazy than you may already be, sound effects nicely placed, and musical magic magic, this is a fully thought through and awesome game if you over look some of the more difficult parts, and horrid camera.

Final Grade: A-
